MY PHILOSOPHY
Keep It Simple
I have always been of the belief that simplicity is key. Whether that be in life, school, business, or golf. Too often I hear golf instruction over complicate the golf swing. Using words that are so overtly complex that whether its right or wrong you leave the lesson confused. The golf swing, like all athletic movements, should be natural. Your body should want to swing the right way. By simplifying the swing into two major motions it is easy to shift our focus to playing golf, not playing golf swing. It is my opinion that the most consistent golf swings are simple, and repeatable. The golf swing begins with a smooth take away lead by a full shoulder rotation, and is finished by the hips rotating to the target. The hands serve their one purpose, holding the golf club. The arms are extended and just follow along for the ride. By doing this a slurry of swing thoughts turns into two. The golf swing becomes simple. This is what I focus on with my students. Once you find a simple golf swing then the game becomes consistent. This allows my students to focus on learning how to play golf, not continuously dissect the golf swing.
When it comes to the short game I am of the same belief. The chipping action is just a miniature golf swing. A rotation of the chest and shoulders followed by the hips turning through the shot. Each chip is a rehearsal of impact. This simplifies the golf swing and chipping action. By allowing the short game to be as simplistic as possible we will remove much of the stress involved. This way a once scary golf shot becomes routine.
